Ellen M. (Chigas) Wolanin

WOLANIN, ELLEN  M.  99, Hastings, passed away following a brief illness on April 23, 2024, at her home, where she had been cared for by her son, Jim, for the last 24 years.  Born February 14, 1925, the daughter of John Sr. and Mary (Kopera) Chigas.  Preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Wolanin who died in May, 1967; brothers, John Chigas Jr. and Robert Chigas; sisters, Elizabeth Marino and Gertrude Gromek; and grandson, Christopher Fredo.  Survived by children, George Jr. (Christine) Wolanin, St. Benedict; Dolly (Tony) Fredo, Kersey; John (Sue) Wolanin, Ohio; James Wolanin, Hastings; grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Lamb, George (Melissa) Wolanin, Tricia Wolanin, John Paul Wolanin; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Luke, Carly, and Ella Lamb, and Owen Wolanin.  Survived by her sister, Mary Lou (Donald) Vislosky, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.  Ellen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was a devout Catholic and had an unwavering faith in God, saying the Rosary and praying for family and friends every day.  Though we grieve her loss, we take comfort in the knowledge that “Mum” has been called home to her Heavenly Father where she will find eternal peace and joy in His loving embrace.  Honoring her request, there will be no public viewing.  A Funeral Mass was held at St. Bernard Catholic Church
