Albert Hromulak Obituary

HROMULAK, ALBERT G., passed away Thursday, July 22, in Johnstown surrounded by his family.  Born November 9, 1941, in Barnesboro, the son of Albert John “Juke” and Elizabeth (Hozdik) Hromulak.  Preceded in death by a brother Edward Hromulak (Gladys, deceased), and a sister Alberta Kastelic (Bill, deceased).  Albert is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen Louise “Wish” (Christoff) Hromulak; son, Albert Gregory Hromulak Jr., and wife Christina Pompeo; and sisters, Theresa Cammarata (Carmen, deceased), Bernadette DeMay (Amadeo “Deedy”, deceased), Florence Sheredy (John, deceased), and Sr. Elaine (Elizabeth) Hromulak, O.S.F.  Albert was a proud alumnus of the Pennsylvania State University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree followed by a master’s degree in Counseling Education in 1966.  He worked at the Hiram G. Andrews Center in Johnstown for 34 years until his retirement in 2001.  Albert was a sports enthusiast.  He was a lifelong Penn State Football season ticket holder and Nittany Lion Club Member.  He was also an avid golfer first starting at Cambrian Hills Golf Course in Hastings where he earned the Most Improved Golfer Award.  Once he moved to Johnstown, he played at the North Fork Golf & Tennis Club where he and his son Albert would play many matches to see who would have to wash the dinner dishes.  From 1992 until 1999, he accompanied his son to almost every Junior and Collegiate Golf event in which he played around the United States.  After retirement, he played his golf at Berkley Hills Golf Course.  He was also a lifelong fan of all Pittsburgh professional sports teams.  He attended baseball games at Forbes Field with his dad “Juke” and years later, Super Bowl 43 in Tampa Bay with his son.  Albert was a member of the Slovak Club in Barnesboro and Jednota (First Catholic Slovak Union).  Every Sunday, he would get out his radio and listen to Polkas from noon – 3 pm.  A private viewing will be held for the immediate family.  Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Johnstown, PA.  Fr. Mark Begly officiating.   A private committal will take place in St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Northern Cambria.  Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc. Northern Cambria in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Albert’s memory be made to the School Sisters of St. Francis, 4900 Perry Highway, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA  15229.
