NEALEN, ANITA MARIE, 92, Nicktown, died peacefully at home on Monday, October 23, 2023. Born May 14, 1931, in Spangler, the daughter of Zygmont and Mary Helen (Farabaugh) Veneskey. Preceded in death by parents, husband of 72 years, Herman Joseph Nealen; sisters, Bernetta Long and Rose Weiland; brothers, Michael, Francis, and John “Jack” Veneskey. Survived by children, Jean (Paul) Ballas; Susan (Robert Reardon); Ann Nealen Ziner (Tal McGary); Charles (Kathy); Dennis; Nancy (Ken) McKee; Norma; Theresa Galantino; Theodore (Susi); Rebecca Ellis; Raymond (Coleen); Paul (Vida Irani); Pauline (David) Paletta; and Michele (Jacob Jones). Anita leaves behind 31 precious grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Mary Delaney; Cecilia “Dee Dee” McGary; Margaret Griffith; Veronica Tinker; Mary “Germaine” Lanzendorfer; brothers, Sylvester “Dick” and Daniel “Butch” Veneskey. Anita loved growing flowers, crocheting, and making baby blankets for patients at Duke Children’s Hospital. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed her homemade bread and goodies, which she also contributed to church and school events. Member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, where she belonged to the St. Nicholas Altar Rosary Society and Legion of Mary. She also enjoyed playing bingo to support St. Nicholas Catholic School. Anita and Herman were fervent supporters of St. Nicholas Catholic School and Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. They were staunchly pro-life, and Anita led her family in daily recitations of the rosary. They were co-recipients of the Bishop Carroll Catholic High School 2012 Cornerstone Award in recognition of their many sacrifices and their determination to seek a Catholic education for their family, which then extended to many grandchildren as well. No public viewing will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Fr. Jeremiah Lange, OSB, PhD, celebrant. Interment at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery. Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, in charge of arrangements.
