Beverly Vorhees Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, BEVERLY JEAN VORHEES, born June 11, 1951, in Spangler, PA, and who passed away November 3, 2024, in Hastings, PA.  Beverly, affectionately known as Bev, Mom, and Grandma, was best known for her positive outlook, her remarkable wittiness, her beauty, and her boundless love for her family, friends, and her cats.  Bev was full of love, optimism, encouragement, and grace.  Beverly led a successful career in property management where she achieved numerous professional goals.  Her success is a testament to her work ethics, tenacity, drive, and brilliance.

Beverly was preceded in death by her father, John E. Dye; Mother, Pauline Elizabeth (Repine) Davis; Husband, Terry Lee Vorhees; Stepfather, Ruel Davis; and sister, Barbara Joan Deeble.  Beverly leaves behind a loving family; sons, Sean Yoder (son Chase) & Ryan Yoder (Stacey); stepsons, Shaun Vorhees (Amy, sons Seth & Jacob), and Scott Vorhees (Sarah, son Hudson); brother John Dye (Debbie); nieces Christa (Greg) Carll, Jennifer Deeble (Marty), and nephews, Charles (Sarah) Deeble, Matthew (Elizabeth) Dye, and Thomas (Chelsea) Dye.

Beverly graduated from Northern Cambria High School in 1969 where she was active in the color guard, student government, yearbook staff, and the chorus, including starring roles in plays such as “Annie Get Your Gun”.  Bev attended Penn State with a full scholarship as a Theater major. Following a role as a bank teller in her early twenties, Bev joined the Penn State Extension Nutrition Aide Program providing nutritional guidance and outreach to families in Cambria County and appeared regularly in local tv and radio broadcasting. Later, Beverly developed a successful career in management.  Including her 25-year tenure with High Associates, Ltd. of Lancaster, PA, Bev’s roles included regional apartment manager in York, PA and Tampa, FL, and over 15 years as a real estate broker and industrial property manager at the Parkland Center in Sarasota, FL until her retirement in 2014.

Always open to adventure and change, Beverly resided in Boston, Baltimore, Orlando, central PA, and Tampa, FL, advancing her career with each move, always providing stability and a beautiful home to Sean and Ryan. In 1987, Bev married Terry Vorhees and added two loving stepsons for a total family of six: a family bond that remains intact between Sean, Ryan, Shaun, and Scott. In 1992, Bev moved to Florida where she lived a full life for more than 30 years. Recently, Bev planned to purchase a family home in Northern Cambria to spend summers, to reconnect with family, and to enjoy the peace and beauty of a place that was always close to her heart.

Bev was talented, skilled, and passionate.  She could easily install kitchen cabinets, fans, light fixtures, as well as paint a house, trim trees, and plant a garden.  She had a unique gift for home decorating and will be remembered for transforming dull places into beautiful spaces that conveyed comfort, love, and a sense of family.  Bev’s hobbies included genealogy and the documentation of her family’s legacy, proudly enjoying her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Bev was passionate about seventies and eighties rock music, and she loved live shows. Bev recently attended concerts by her favorite musicians including Chicago, Heart, Robert Plant, and Duran Duran.  She loved spending quality time with her family and friends to share her unique adventures.

Bev was a skilled cook, and her family enjoyed a wide range of home-cooked meals from pigs in the blanket, homemade pizza, rice pudding to cinnamon rolls and pineapple upside down cake.  When going out, Beverly’s favorite was Mexican food, always ready for a relleno, a poblano or an enchilada. Beverly was sure to celebrate her boys’ birthdays every year by cooking their favorite meal and spending sunny afternoons in Florida together.  Beverly was an independent and adventurous soul who traveled the world, from the Caribbean to Alaska, Mexico, and to several European countries, often taking cruises with her dear friend from Scotland, Nanette.  She also loved spending quiet weeks in the woods in her Georgia cabin and was always ready to spend down time relaxing at her home.

Bev achieved many things in her lifetime, and we will miss her company, her words, and her presence.  She lit up a room with her beauty and enthusiasm, she raised two sons who loved her deeply, and she filled her grandson’s childhood with long lasting memories of stories, trips, gifts, and countless hours playing video games. Bev owned several gaming consoles, so she could be Chase’s playmate through the years, and she gifted him with a pre-paid college fund to help to secure his future.

Beverly’s legacy will forever be a testament to her zest for life, her work ethics, kindness, resilience, positivity, and perseverance.  Her boundless love for her sons and grandson is a testament to her loving heart. Beverly was a beacon of love and kindness who brought joy and understanding to everyone around her.  Today, we remember Beverly as a light forever shining always willing to live, to laugh, and to share.  Our hearts are full of sorrow and gratefulness because we know we had, and we lost the kindest mother and grandmother. We will miss you every day.

A tribute to honor Beverly will be held in a memorial service on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 11 am at the Moriconi Funeral Home, 1303 Bigler Ave., Northern Cambria, PA.
