Elizabeth "Betty" J. (Kankula) Oaks

OAKS, ELIZABETH J. “Betty”, 80, Westover, passed away August 3, 2022.  Born June 4, 1942, in Johnstown, the daughter of Alex and Helen (Garay) Kankula.  Preceded in death by parents; sister, Irene Stanton; and brothers-in-law, Tom Dugan, Ronald “Butch” Diviney, and Herb Stanton.  Survived by loving husband of 52 years, Francis Oaks Sr.; children, Robert (Susie) Oaks, Cindy (Shawn) McGarvey, Francis Jr. (Miste) Oaks, Ryan, Tony and Richard Oaks; grandchildren, Don, Justin, Laura and Robbie Oaks, and Matthew and Adam McGarvey; and great-granddaughter, Kyla.  Also survived by sisters, Helen Dugan, Theresa (Roy “Herk”) Frampton; and Marge Diviney. Also numerous nieces and nephews.  Betty retired from the Ebensburg Center after working many years as a Nurse’s Aide.  Member of East Ridge-Harmony United Methodist Church.  A devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Betty loved having her family around her and she cherished times spent celebrating holidays and family events.  She will be deeply missed.  Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.  Lay pastor Shawn McGarvey officiating.  Interment, Harmony Cemetery.
