Gilbert Kirkpatrick Obituary

KIRKPATRICK, GILBERT L., 85, New London, North Carolina, native of Hastings, PA, passed away November 12, 2024, in North Carolina.  Born August 3, 1939, in St. Boniface, the son of Gilbert A. and Florence M. (Miller) Kirkpatrick.  Preceded in death by parents; loving wife, Ann Cecilia (Donahue) Kirkpatrick, who died September 9, 2023; grandson, Chase Covington and granddaughter, Peyton Williams; brothers, William, Raymond, James, Edwin and Richard Kirkpatrick; and sister, Jean Williams.  Survived by children, Nina (Louis) Schrenkel, Richfield, NC; Julia Kirkpatrick, San Diego, CA; Gwen Kirkpatrick, Badin, NC; Eric Kirkpatrick, Fredericksburg, VA; Sean Kirkpatrick, Ruther Glen, VA; Paula Kirkpatrick, Lancaster, SC; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Brother of Thomas (Barb) Kirk, VA; Mary Davis, MD; Janet Thomas, Ebensburg; and Rose (Boyd) Strittmatter, Blairsville.  Graduate of Hastings Elder High School and Williamsport Technical Institute where he studied office machine service and repair. A skilled craftsman, he worked for Strittmatter Lumber Co. of Hastings for 25 years.  During these years, he and Ann raised their family guided by a strong faith in God, the example of hard work and service to the community.  Member of St. Bernard Catholic Church where he was active in the Holy Name Society and served as president of St. Bernard’s School Council.  He was also a member of the Hastings Area Industrial Development Association, served on the Hastings Borough Council, and was a member of the Hastings Moose Lodge where enjoyed bowling with his many friends. His summers were often spent at the ball field coaching area youth in Little League and Pony League baseball.  In the late 1980’s Gilbert and Ann chose to relocate to Virginia where Gilbert worked the next 13 years for the Stafford County Virginia Public Schools as an Assistant Building Engineer.  Throughout his life he remained a sports enthusiast and an avid fan of Steelers Football, Pirates Baseball, and NASCAR. He loved the challenge of Scrabble and crossword puzzles.  He will always be remembered by family and friends as the “life of the party”.  He loved a good “gag” and was always willing to join in on family games.  His enthusiasm was infectious, and he was 100% committed to the “bit”—whether it meant wearing a costume, singing, playing air guitar, or competing against the younger kids.  He loved all things family.  The Kirkpatrick family will receive friends from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 Bigler Avenue, Northern Cambria.  Interment, St. Bernard Cemetery, Hastings.
