Gregory Lubert, (67), passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on November 20th, 2023, peacefully. Greg’s passion was as an educator, always looking for new and innovative ideas to use with his students. Greg worked for the Archdiocese of New York for 40 years at Our Lady of Pompeii School at various levels including assistant principal. He taught primary grades, middle school, junior high, he was the resource room teacher, and librarian during the course of his years at OLP. Going to work every day was a pleasure and not a job to Greg and he loved his students, parents, and faculty. Coming to Arizona, Greg had a job at William C Jack School as a kindergarten teacher. His last contract was at Foothills Fine Arts Academy teaching sixth grade, ELA (English, Literature, Arts) and Global History. Even though his tenure there was for only two months he created a bond with the students, parents, and faculty that was unbelievable. Greg’s life was one of continual learning and educating. That was his vocation and mission. Many of his students at our Lady of Pompeii are Facebook friends. They have made a lifelong connection with Greg, and he delighted in seeing the comments and responding to all of them. Greg would always say that there was not one student that he could not fall in love with and help.Greg is survived by his brother, Lawrence, sister-in-law, Diane, nephew, Raymond, and niece, Alicia. Greg greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the long weekend family dinners and playing cards. Greg was preceded in death by his father, John, his mother, Helen and Mark. During Greg’s spare time, he enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting, crafts, cooking, baking, singing, going to the theatre, music, and reading. During the summers he enjoyed spending time at his dad’s summer home in Northern Cambria Pennsylvania with all the cousins and going to Bingo. Greg appreciated and cherished all his friendships in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut and Arizona, everyone was very special to him. Greg’s greatest legacy and hope was that through all the years of education and teaching, he made an impact on his students and their lives. That was Greg’s main objective. Visitation and Funeral Mass were held in Arizona. Local family and friends are invited to a mass for Gregory at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria is assisting the Lubert family.
