BEGENYI, JOANNE FRANCIS, 87, Northern Cambria, passed away, Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Rose of Sharon Home, Inc. in St. Michael where she had lived for the past several years. Born September 11, 1934, in Hastings, the daughter of William and Aline (Dillon) Sullivan. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 52 years, Charles L. Begenyi, passed away in 2008; daughter, Donna Kotelnicki; siblings, Ruth Suwinski, Eleanor Juengel, Nancy Fisanick, Marge Kline, and Jean Pawliske; brothers; James, William, and Tom Sullivan; nephew; Robert Sullivan who was like a brother. Survived by her children; Deborah (Herm) Weiland, Nicktown; Janice Ostrander, Mike Begenyi; both of Northern Cambria, Linda (Randy) Bernard, St. Clairsville, OH; and Barry (Eileen) Begenyi, Douglas, Alaska; 13 grandchildren, Sara Costello, Joshua (Kaitlin) Weiland, Amy Lynn Weiland, Meghan Ostrander, Richard Walker, Nichole Simmons, Lesley (Judson) Sarver, Randy, Justin, Dana Bernard, Laura (Frank) Porter, Charles, and Anna Begenyi; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Joanne was a graduate of Hastings Elder High School and cherished her years there and growing up in the “Clubhouse” in Hastings. She fondly spoke of roller skating and picking berries when she was young. She loved watching the “soaps”, going to the gym to work out, reading and tending to her flowers and yard. Joanne was a longtime member of Mount Carmel Parish until it was closed and merged with Prince of Peace. Family and Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. until time of service 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2022, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers you donate to the Northern Cambria Library, Wounded Warriors Foundation or UNICEF to help the children that are suffering as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.
