Lechene, John Andre, 70, Patton, passed away April 15, 2026, at UPMC Altoona Hospital, from complications of battling several serious illnesses for the last six years. Born May 21, 1955, in Warren, MI, the son of Leo and Rose Marie (Hoste) Lechene. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Mark Lechene. Survived by loving wife of 46 years, Kathryn (Schlimm) Lechene known by many as Kathy or Katie; sons, Benedict (Gina) Lechene, Mathias (Kara) Lechene, Theodore (Lyndsay) Lechene, all of Patton; and the grandchildren he adored, Claire, Owen, Lance, Noah, Trenton, Madisyn, Elliott, Emery, Malea, Theodore Jr., and Jacob. Brother of Louise Lechene, Lexington, SC; Leon Lechene, Cherry Tree; Kevin Lechene, South Carolina; Annette Ebbs, Northern Cambria; Suzette Lechene, Gettysburg; Mary Bennett, Shelocta; Denise Botsford, Indiana; and Tom Lechene, Etters, PA. Member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Employed as a Petroleum Equipment Specialist for many years, having worked for Hoover Gas & Oil, Bolger Brothers, George I. Rietz & Sons, and most recently supporting his son, Ted with TJL Petroleum & Fabricating. He loved his work and the people he encountered through the years. In the community, he was a member of the Coalport MOOSE Lodge, Patton Sportsman Club, and a social member of the Coalport VFW and Carrolltown American Legion. He was passionate about people, gatherings, and parties at their home—friendly and engaging, interested in everyone he met. His free time was spent enjoying motorcycle trips with friends, and later with his Camaro. So proud of the sons they raised, he was available in an instant to lend a hand or help them with any task. At home he was content spending hours mowing in the fields of the farm he loved. John “lived large” and enjoyed life each day knowing that his faith and his love of family were his greatest gifts. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Bob Reese officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s memory will be used to establish a scholarship fund for students who pursue careers in the trades. Donations can be made to: “John Lechene Memorial Scholarship” and mailed to: Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 216 Franklin Street, Suite 400, Johnstown, PA 15901. Or online John Lechene Memorial Scholarship Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria handling all arrangements.
