FILKINS, MARY L., 93, Northern Cambria, passed away October 2, 2023. Born February 28, 1930, in Barnesboro, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Zavatsky) Andrews. Preceded in death by parents; son, Mark; and siblings, Joseph Andrews, Phillip Andrews, Margaret Lesnowski, Rosella Keirn, Lucille Salosky, Florence Van Gieson, and Kathleen Gallo. Survived by children, Donna Sumner, Ebensburg; Gary (Marian) Filkins, Northern Cambria; Michael Filkins (Darla Wojno), Tuscon, AZ; Valerie (Ken) Dusack, Greensburg; Donald Filkins, Hastings; and daughter-in-law, Nora Filkins, Manheim. Grandchildren, Rebecca Filkins, Christy Filkins (Zach Hudson), Amber Filkins (Ryan Lydic), Ben Filkins, Thomas Filkins (Cindy), and Lisa Kass (John Smiley); step-grandchild, Beth Dusack; great-grandchildren, Max and Isabella; and step-great-grandson, Anthony. Also survived by siblings, John Andrews, Marcella Andrews, Barbara Leister, and Bernetta Zemrose. Mary was a devoted mother who raised her six children on her own guided by her faith in God. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished time with her family. She retired after 43 years working as an attendant at Rouse’s Laundromat where she truly enjoyed getting to know so many members of the community who all affectionately called her the “Laundromat Lady”. In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bingo. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. Family and friends will be received from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Groeger officiating. Inurnment, Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Cambria County Assoc. for the Blind and Handicapped.
