Mary "Mary Jo" Sibert Obituary

SIBERT, MARY JOAN “Mary Jo”, 68, Carrolltown, passed away April 2, 2020, at UPMC Altoona Hospital.  Born September 19, 1951, in Spangler, the daughter of William F. and Mildred B. (Yahner) Bender.  Preceded in death by parents; brother, William J. Bender; in-laws, Robert and Elsie Sibert; and sister-in-law, Barbara Sibert Holtz.  Survived by loving husband of 46 years, Robert “Bob” Sibert; daughters, Jill, married to James M. Hammer, and Emily, married to Mark K. Bender; and granddaughters, Madison, Ellie and Markie Bender.  Also survived by siblings, Carol (Larry) Field, who helped raise her, Janet (Leroy) McNulty, Richard Bender and Maureen Mazzotta; sister-in-law, Pauline (McCoy) Bender; brother-in-law, John (Mary Beth) Sibert, nine nieces and four nephews.  A Carrolltown resident since birth, she was a lifelong member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and a 1969 graduate of Cambria Heights High School.  She was formerly employed at Van Heusen Shirt Co. in Patton and worked as a CNA at Laurel Crest Manor, Ebensburg, from where she retired in 2001.  Mary Jo faced a number of adversities throughout her life, including: losing her mother at the age of six, losing almost everything she and Bob owned when their apartment building burnt down to the ground two weeks after they were married and experiencing several serious health issues throughout the last 40 plus years of her life.  Mary Jo was an original human being who was extremely thoughtful, who had strong opinions about certain topics and who had a colorful and unique way of describing things.  She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her family, going to her grandchildrens various activities and events, playing the card game cinch with her sisters Carol and Janet and her card partner/niece Ann (McNulty) Krug, watching old movies and old TV shows, eating sweets and doing word searches.  Bob, Jill and Emily would like to thank all the healthcare providers who treated and assisted our wife/mom over the years and helped them navigate her complex health issues, in particular, Dr. Richard Larkin.  Finally, a special thank you to Mary Jo and Janet for all they did to help in her daily care while she was at home this year.  Due to the COVID-19 health concerns there will be no viewing or visitation. The family will announce a memorial service at a future date.  Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria is assisting the Sibert family.
