PIERCE, MERL LEROY, 100, Westover, passed away December 15, 2024, at home. Born December 1, 1924, in Burnside Twp., the last surviving member of the Elmer and Lavina (Weakland) Pierce family. Preceded in death by parents; beloved wife, Margaret (Legros) Pierce; infant daughter, Lois Marie; daughter-in-law, Patricia (McCreary) Pierce; and siblings, Regina Baker, Francis Pierce, Molly Gleason, Hon Ashcraft, Edward Pierce and Clair Pierce. Merl was blessed to have shared nearly 70 years of marriage with Margaret before her passing in 2014. He is survived by sons, Merl Pierce, Kenneth Pierce (Lisa), Gary (Cheryl) Pierce, Donald Pierce, Carl (Colleen) Pierce, and daughters, Phyllis (Terry) Frye, Jean (Roger) McChesney, and Barb (Stanley) Kukla. Also 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was a proud WWII Army Veteran and retired coal miner with 35 years of service. A lifelong farmer, he enjoyed working on his land and appreciated being surrounded by nature. He lived his life guided by his love for the Lord and devotion to his family. Family and friends will be received from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, where a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment, East Ridge Cemetery. Military honors by local veteran’s organizations.
