SWARDEN, MICHAEL J., 81, Carrolltown, passed away January 14, 2021, at home. Born January 6, 1940, in Patton, the son of Michael and Grace (Capute) Swarden. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Grace Weakland and Jean Diehl; and brother, Walter Swarden. Survived by loving wife of 59 years, Martha L. (Kozickie) Swarden; daughters, Kimberly Sottile (David), Lexington, KY; Tina (Richard) Peters, Ebensburg; Michele (Daniel) Fregly, Johnstown; Jennifer Swarden (Doug), Wintergarden, FL; and Jeannette (Brian) Tsikalas, Latrobe; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. US Army Veteran who was very proud of his service to his country. Formerly employed as a coalminer at Barnes & Tucker Co. and later in the Maintenance Department of Miners Hospital. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. Mike was an avid fly fisherman, and excellent carpenter and woodworker. He was someone always willing to lend a hand and help others in any way he could. He was proud of his home and enjoyed times when the family gathered there. Above all he was a devoted husband and wonderful father and grandfather, making family his priority. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass which will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Fr. Jude Brady, OSB, celebrant.
