Monabelle Bassett Obituary

Bassett, Monabelle (Lane), 94, of Bakerton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on March 14, 2026. Born September 6, 1931, in Bakerton, she was the daughter of the late James and Elvena (Downing) Lane.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John “Jack” Bassett; her son, Timothy Bassett; grandson, Brandon Bassett; and siblings James Lane, Lillian “Lilly May” Lane, Robert Lane, Darrell Lane, Bonnie Hertzog, and Nancy McCoy.

She is survived by her children, Jacquelyn “Jacki Rae” (John) Stevens, Donald Bassett, and Drew Bassett, all of Bakerton; her brother, Gerald Lane; and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she cherished deeply.

Monabelle, the second oldest in her family, was a caretaker for many throughout her life. She was born a coal miner’s daughter and later became a coal miner’s wife and mother. She graduated from John Carroll High School in 1949 and entered the workforce soon after. On May 21, 1955, she married the love of her life, Jack, with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on December 2, 2020.

Together they raised their family in Bakerton, where they created many cherished memories. Her home was famously known as a place of gathering, laughter, and lasting memories for family and friends alike. Monabelle was an outstanding cook and baker who prepared countless incredible dishes throughout her lifetime. She also loved playing bingo and enjoyed card games with her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and rarely missed watching a game.

Monabelle was a lifelong member of Bakerton United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served the Lord. She filled many roles within the church but was especially known for her dedication as a Sunday School teacher, a role she held for more than 50 years. Her faith, kindness, strength, and devotion to family defined her life.

She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family will continue through the many lives she touched.

Monabelle will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the hospice care team who provided such compassionate care and support to Monabelle during her final days.  Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria.  Pastor Jeff Rupp, officiating.  Interment, Bakerton United Methodist Cemetery.
