Smychynsky, Paul J. “Gumshoe”, 88, Elmora, passed away February 6, 2021, at Conemaugh Miners Medical Center, Hastings. Born August 9, 1932, in Bakerton, the son of Wasco and Julia (Kutsick) Smychynsky. Preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Dorothy M. (Weakland) Smychynsky, who died October 21, 2013; grandson, Scott Sutton; brothers, Joseph, and Frank Smychynsky. Survived by children, Rita, wife of George Venesky, Chardin, OH; Rose, wife of Charles Sutton, Chest Springs; Sheila, wife of Larry Knee, Elmora; Thomas Smychynsky, married to Debbie Rudolph, Elmora and Paul Smychynsky, married to Kathy Diamond, Thompson, OH; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Brother of, John “Connie” Smychynsky, Nicktown; Thomas “Ron” (Nancy) Smychynsky, Carrolltown; Donald “Doc” (Judy) Smychynsky, Elmora; Jo Ann (Thomas) Kerfoot, New Jersey; Diane (Michael Mandrick) Smychynsky, Elmora and sister-in-law, Della Skupien, Duncansville, PA. Retired coal miner from Barnes & Tucker Coal Company. Gumshoe was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his passion was his “farm” consisting of a berry patch and garden. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, Bakerton Rod & Gun Club, Bakerton Athletic Club and was a Life member of St. Benedict VFW. Due to the current health concerns, there will be no public visitation. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Elmora. Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, is in charge of the arrangements.
