MCMURRAY, PENELOPE A., “Penny”, 73, Hastings, passed away peacefully, February 25, 2026, at UPMC Altoona Hospital, after courageously battling breast cancer for many years . Born April 22, 1952, in Spangler, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Haffly) Rematt. Preceded in death by infant brother, Kenneth; brothers, Richard (Joyce) Rematt, Most Rev. Theodore J. Rematt, DD, OSJ, and Robert (Elizabeth) Rematt, and brothers-in-law, William Lann and Robert “Pork” McMurray. Survived by loving husband of 53 years, Ronald McMurray, Hastings; daughters, Shelley (Doug) Lockard, Marsteller; and Tina (Pete) Bernecky, Northern Cambria; grandchildren, Shane Lockard (Rayna Buza), Ashley Lockard; Skye and Quinn Bernecky. Sister of Diana (Hank) Tomkinson, MI; Donna Lann and Frances (Leo) McConnell, both of Northern Cambria; Thomas (Nancy) Rematt, Hastings; Josie (Harry) Costello, Homer City; and Debbie (Donny) Eagler, Cherry Tree. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Formerly employed as a seamstress at the Barnesboro Shirt Factory, she later earned her diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked as a private duty nurse. Penny loved browsing yard sales, attending auctions, thrifting, playing Bingo, and crocheting. But her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
