Peter Bernard, Jr. Obituary

Peter J. “Pete” Bernard Jr., 83, of Northern Cambria, passed away September 8, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family.  Born April 4, 1937, in Spangler, the son of the late Peter and Beulah (Miller) Bernard.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, John; son, Brian J. Bernard; siblings, Mary (late Marcellus) Thomas; Elizabeth (late James) Cence; John F. (Loretta) Bernard; and grandson, Mason Maddox.  Pete was the beloved husband of Adrienne (Smorto) Bernard.  Together, they lovingly raised their four sons.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Arnold (Marie) Bernard, Windber; Randolph (Linda) Bernard, St. Clairsville, OH; Gregory (Jackie) Bernard, Hollidaysburg; daughter-in-law, April (James) Maddox, Linthicum, MD; grandchildren, Lesley (Judson) Sarver, Randolph Bernard Jr., Arnold (Lauren) Bernard Jr., Andrew (Kara) Bernard, Justin Bernard, Peter (Megan) Bernard, Brianna Bernard Maddox, Dana Bernard, Madison (Trent) Sipes, Laura Bernard, Alec Bernard and Brian Bernard; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Korey and Elijah Sarver; Charles and Josephine Bernard.  Brother of Laura (late Leo) Palmisano, Shirley (Robert) Kelly, Patricia (late John) Bonatesta and Joyce (Arnold) Smorto, all of Northern Cambria; and numerous nephews and nieces.  Pete was a retired mine foreman with BethEnergy Mine #33.  Member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church where he previously served on the church council.  Always concerned about local civic issues, Pete served many years on the Barnesboro Borough Council, also serving as Council President.  Never one to sit still, Pete was always working around his house or helping friends and family, traveling, hunting, golfing and attending family activities.  They say a man’s friendships are one of the best measures of his worth. The devotion of Pete’s close friends, to the very end, is a testament to both his character and integrity.  Family and friends will be received from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, September 11, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Church.  Fr. Matthew Baum officiating.  Committal, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
