ROMETT, SYLVESTER F., 96, Northern Cambria, passed away May 8, 2024, at UPMC Altoona Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the last surviving member of the John and Erma (Sauro) Romett family, and was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Joseph, Thomas, James, and Gregory Romett; and sister, Rosalyn Bush. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn (Dorko) Romett, with whom he celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in November of 2023; their children, Lawrence (Tai) Romett, Kathy (Dave) Abrams, and Christine Romett; eight grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and long-time owner of the Colonial Inn Bar in Northern Cambria operating from 1966 until its closing in December 2019. He loved having his family around and after every visit, he could be seen waving goodbye in the rear-view mirror. His family will always remember him setting up pool shots for them to practice and lately, his love of coffee and sweets. Throughout his life he loved tinkering and fixing things and going fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed feeding the wildlife and occasionally ending the night with his favorite whiskey alongside a close friend. He will be deeply missed by all. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria beginning at 6:00 p.m. Military honors will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. and a funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Fr. Mark Groeger officiating.
