Theresa Mortensen Obituary

MORTENSEN, THERESA A. (Terri), 77, of Hastings, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Johnstown, the daughter of James and Ginger Owens and Emil and Susan Delosh.  Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert “Mort” Mortensen; siblings, Emil Delosh, Steve Delosh, Philip Owens, Maryanne Kunkle, and Martha Bugal; brother-in-law, Jerry Burskey.  Survived by her children, Robert (Marianne) Mortensen Jr.; Melissa (Samuel) LaMagna; and Jason Mortensen; grandchildren, Samantha LaMagna; Stephen (Kathryn) Mortensen; and Katelynn (Reven) Mahan; and great grandchildren; Nora Mortensen and Emryn Mahan.  Sister of, Joe (Sandy) Owens; John (Vera) Delosh; Carol Delosh; and Barbara (Dennis) Szalma; sister-in-law, Lou Burskey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Will and Betty Mortensen; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Terri was a lifelong parishioner at St. Bernard Catholic Church and cherished their annual picnic and chicken dinners.  She worked as a CNA, providing compassionate care to both the young and elderly.  A proud resident of Hastings, Terri loved her community, neighbors and friends.  She adored children and often babysat for families in the neighborhood and had previously managed the Hastings Park and Pool with her husband.  Terri was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found great joy in caring for her family.   She had a deep passion for gardening and loved canning the fruits and vegetables she grew.  Known for her delicious nut rolls during the holidays. Terri also made pizza and strombolis for the local VFW and Moose.  She enjoyed hosting picnics, setting off fireworks with her husband, decorating for the holidays, crafting, and especially doing ceramics.  Terri and her husband loved spending time at camp in the Westline.   Terri’s family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Matt Dvorchak and Becky Barzack for their years of care, as well as to the teams of Conemaugh Hospital, Haida Manor, and 365 Hospice.  A special thank you to Terri’s dedicated caregivers, Brenda, Blake, Marie, and both Lexi’s, who showed her tremendous kindness and respect.  The family is especially grateful to lifelong friend and neighbor Renee Shortencarrier for her unwavering support and comfort.  Family and friends are invited to celebrate a funeral mass at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings. Rev. Thaddeus Rettger, O.S.B., celebrant.  Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria handling all arrangements.
