Obituary

FREDERICK, WILLIAM F., SR., 85, First Sgt. US Army, Patton, passed away August 19, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Spangler, April 23, 1938, the son of Francis and Mary (Shonsky) Frederick.  Preceded in death by parents, sister, Margaret Boring; brothers, Robert, and Gary; infant great-grandson, Jesse Bartlebaugh.  Survived by loving wife of 59 years, Marleen “Bunnie” (Edmiston), whom he married November 27, 1963, in Washington, DC; son, William Jr. (Patti Link), Carrolltown; daughters, Brenda Frederick, Hollidaysburg and Cheryl Baum, Patton; grandchildren, Marleena (Dakoda) Bartlebaugh, Revloc; Chelsea Frederick, Revloc; Leah Frederick, Carrolltown; Katelyn Baum, TX; James (Kaitlyn “Kat”) Baum, Patton; two great-grandsons, Kameron and Andre Frederick, Revloc.  Also survived by sisters, Rose Marie Goss, Houtzdale; Patricia Myers, Bakerton; Mary Louise (Charles) Fabert, Bakerton; and Nancy (Dave) Bosar, Gypsie and several nieces and nephews.  Bill retired from the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant, having proudly served our country faithfully and honorably for 24 years.  He served two tours in the Vietnam War and a tour on the DMZ in Korea.   Upon returning home after his service, Bill worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and retired after 20 years.  He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Dysart, and a life member of VFW Post 4315, Ashville.  He enjoyed gardening, cutting grass on his tractor and his blueberry patch.  Above all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved time with his family.  Family and friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, at Moriconi Funeral Home, Inc., Northern Cambria, and at St. Benedict Church, Carrolltown in the Boniface Wimmer Room, on Wednesday, August 23, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with funeral mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Michael Gabler OSB celebrant.  Committal, St. Benedict Cemetery.  Military Honors by local veterans’ organizations.
